Oil Well Exploration

In today's oil and gas industry, including oil exploration, extraction, and drilling systems, seals are often used in harsh application environments with high pressure, extreme temperature, or corrosive chemicals and gases.

CHR provides a series of independent tests certificated by third-party certification body, such as Element Hitchin. Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) is performed on materials, such as HNBR, FKM, and AFLAS, according to ISO 23936-2 after being exposed to high-pressure gas environments.

Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD)

Applicable to special rubbers for oil and gas industry

Gas penetrates into elastomers under high pressure. When the pressure in the high pressure environment where an elastomer is located released rapidly, the pressurized gas in the elastomer will try to expand and rush out of the elastomer, and break the elastomer as a result. This is called Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) or Explosive Decompression (ED)

RGD can easily cause visible cracks or invisible internal damage in seals, leading to failure of the seal, damage to the equipment, and loss of the oil and gas industry. Therefore, the RGD resistance ability is an essential metric for the industry.
